| Bilgi : At the turn of the 15th century Spain became the greatest empire of the world, and was on a scale unprecedented since the fall of the Roman Empire. In order to realise the slogan ”one country, one God” they introduced state inquisition, one of the objectives of which was the termination of Jewish heresy.
The film takes place in 1542 in a small Spanish town.
The peace and tranquillity of daily life are upset by mystery murders. The victims are noblemen, into whose chests the murderer carves a single letter. Nor does he spare the eyewitnesses, creating a bloodbath in the alleys of the town. Every time the town’s chief constable Ruy Mendoza and his men go to the murder scene, the dead bodies have disappeared. He is the only eyewitness, and since he has no evidence nobody believes him. He cannot expect any help from anybody, so he is left to his own devices. During the investigation that he conducts he comes upon a secret that drags not only him into danger but his family too.
