| Bilgi : There have been several articles severely criticizing Hollywood studios that slip a movie into theaters without showing it to the press. At least they get the Friday night box office receipts before lousy reviews start being read. Here is the next discrimination suit waiting to happen. Is the ACLU paying attention? I was told that, if I turned up at the Wednesday night promotional screening of SCARY MOVIE 4, I would to be physically removed from the theater.
No internet film critics - especially mentioned were any reviewers posting on Rottentomatoes.com - would be admitted.
What if I had gone to the radio station giving out promotional tickets, as did several hundred audience members, and got myself a ticket? Do I now have to go to screenings in disguise?
All the big movie bulls are skewered in SM4 as well as The Number One Movie Star in the World, Tom Cruise. But why did The Blessed Angelina Jolie get a pass? (The second coming of Jesus? Nah. I’m waiting for the Jolie-Pitt baby to save Mankind and feed all the poor nations of the world!) With South Park’s now-embargoed Scientology episode never to be seen again on TV and SM4’s sofa-hopping spoof, Tom has some crisis management PR work ahead of him (and he’s already pioneered adopting children, including a black baby!) SM4 is cruel to Tom. He’s starting to earn my sympathy!
Writer-director David Zucker and fellow writers Craig Mazin, Pat Proft and Jim Abrahams immediately parody SAW with the perfect casting of Dr. Phil and then give us the spoof we really were waiting for was when Mahalik (Anthony Anderson) goes fishing on Brokeback Mountain. Another clever spoof was MILLION DOLLAR BABY.
Once again, angelic Anna Faris reigns as dewy Cindy. Along with the terrific Regina Hall as her nasty sex-starved friend Brenda, Craig Bierko (he was fabulous in CINDERELLA MAN) joins the SM franchise as a faux Tom Cruise from THE WAR OF THE WORLDS.
Quite smartly, the writers have integrated all these popular movies, including THE GRUDGE and THE VILLAGE in a cohesive storyline! Who knew all these films could coalesce into one story with character arcs and a structured conclusion?
