But an urgent mission interrupts their Earth-bound shore leave. A renegade Vulcan named Sybok has taken several ambassadors hostage on the planet Nimbus III, an event which also attracts the attention of a Klingon captain who wants to make a name for himself. Syboks rag-tag army captures the Enterprise and takes it on a journey to the center of the galaxy in search of the Supreme Being.The crew of the Federation starship Enterprise is called to Nimbus III, the Planet of Intergalactic Peace. They are to negotiate in a case of kidnapping only to find out that the kidnapper is a relative of Spock. This man is possessed by his life long search for the planet Shaka-Ri which is supposed to be the source of all life. Together they begin to search for this mysterious planet.After a poor shakedown of the Enterprise-A, the ship is put into Spacedock for repairs and most of the crew take shore leave. Meanwhile on Nimbus III, a renegade Vulcan named Sybok takes ambassadors from the major powers hostage. Despite the Enterprise-As troubled state, Starfleet orders Captain Kirk to lead a rescue mission. Sybok and his loyal followers manage to hijack the Enterprise-A and Captain Kirk, along with Mr. Spock and Dr. McCoy, is locked in the brig. But Kirk has another problem. A Klingon captain is chasing him, planning to make a name for himself by killing Kirk. After escaping the brig Kirk and company discovers Sybok is going to take the Enterprise-A to the center of the galaxy in a search for God.Its Stardate 8454.130 and vacationing Captain Kirk faces two challenges: climbing Yosemites El Capitan and teaching campfire songs to Spock. But vacations are cut short when a renegade Vulcan hijacks the Enterprise, and pilots it on a journey to uncover the universes innermost secrets.
