Bilgi :937 Jewish Germans are offered safe haven in Havana, Cuba, in 1939. They depart Hamburg in high spirits, looking forward to their new life. However, the whole voyage is actually a Nazi propaganda scheme and the passengers are never really intended to be allowed ashore once they reach their destination. After weeks of unsuccessful pleas they are forced to return back to Europe.

Siamo alla viglia della Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Un transatlantico tedesco parte da Amburgo diretto a Cuba : porta a bordo 937 ebrei che chiederanno asilo politico al governo cubano. Ma non tutto fila come dovrebbe. Il governo dell'Avana, preoccupato per i possibili sviluppi della vicenda, rifiuta di ospitare i profughi. Dopo vane ed inutili trattative e dopo lunghe e drammatiche tappe in altri porti, la nave è costretta a fare ritorno in Germania.
